[…] cool, dull, low saturated dark colors make objects look smaller and appear to recede in space. They have a restrained feeling and evoke emotions such as sadness, depression, loss, and longing. As objects move back into space, they lose color and saturation and blend or melt away into a middle or light gray. This effect is called atmospheric perspective.
