Color film consist of three light-sensitive layers of emulsion held on to a film base. Each layer responds to one-third of the colors in the spectrum. One layer is sensitive to blue, another to green, and the other to red using the additive color system to achieve a full spectrum or range of hues. There are a wide variety of color films on the market. They fall into two basic groups: color print film and reversal or slide film. Reversal films usually have the word “chrome” as part of their product name, such as Ektachrome of Fujichrome.
