A large wooden mobile frame raised and lowered by a winch, and counter-balanced. Large drop-scenes, panorama cloths, etc., are stretched on this frame by the scenic artiste who works on a catwalk built in front of the frame. In most theatres it is situated at the back of the stage, level with the fly-floor and is lit from the skylight above the grid.
