If all color is eliminated entirely, then what we would be left with is an achromatic range. […] We would be working with pure value or the lightness and darkness only without any hint of hue. In its most exacting definition the prefix a- is from the Greek meaning not and “chroma” meaning color. In other words, it is without color or not colored.
